Seattle, Washington, May 18, 2011 – France Education Northwest (FEN), the educational non-profit organization created by the French-American Chamber of Commerce, Pacific Northwest, is hosting a series of exciting events and projects in Seattle to celebrate French culture and commemorate Bastille Day. Bastille Day festivals – held in cities all around the world – are summer celebrations to mark the French Revolution and France’s Independence Day.

The 8th Annual Bastille Day Festival will be held on July 9 & 10, 2011, at the Seattle Center as part of FESTÁL. The event will feature French music, food, wine, games, children’s activities, a marché and interactive fun – activities for everyone! The event is free, open to the public and a blast for people of all ages.

This year, two contests will be held as part of the FESTÁL Fabric of America Project. The first, the Bastille Day Festival poster competition, where design submissions will be accepted and one will be selected for use as the main promotional graphic of the 2011 Bastille Day Festival. The winning design will be used on posters, post cards, moo cards, and on the Seattle Bastille Day Festival websites. Anyone can submit a design! The design needs to be related to France in some way and in particular to the theme “What are you a connoisseur of?“, and it must not contain any copyrighted images. For full contest rules and requirements, please download the pdf

The second competition will be a Bastille Day Festival visual arts contest, where photos, drawings, videos and other visual art forms can be submitted also representing the theme “What are you a connoisseur of?“. Two winners will be selected: one winner between the ages of 13-25 and one over the age of 26. All submissions will be on display at the festival!

All images must be submitted electronically via the FESTÁL Fabric of America Project website. For more information about these contests please contact FEN at intern@faccpnw.org or at 206.443.4703.
